Notre Dame’s Science-Based Tools for Assessing Invasion Risk (STAIR)

These risk assessment tools were designed to help Great Lakes states and provinces create more consistent, comprehensive regulations for a region so interconnected that species can easily spread across jurisdictional lines.

Scientists and specialists at the University of Notre Dame, Loyola University Chicago, The Nature Conservancy and Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant began this project in 2010 with funding from the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. Researchers have used these tools to assess the risk of known crayfish, fish, mollusks, plants.
